Building Arts and Culture in Weston

Building Arts and Culture in Weston

ABOUT US

The Romano D'Andrea Foundation was established in 2019. We are committed to building a world class performing arts centre in Weston. It will be an artistic catalyst that will drive socio-economic growth, spur interest and opportunities in the performing arts, nurture a new arts ecosystem in the community, and enrich the lives of the people of Toronto.

WHO IS ROMANO D’ANDREA?

Romano's love of theatre (and especially not-for-profit local theatre) has been rooted in his support of many of Toronto's great theatre companies. He has seen first hand the transformative power of the art in the lives of individuals and their communities.

OUR VISION

The Romano D’Andrea Foundation is committed to bringing live theatre to Weston.

The northwest part of Toronto and in particular the old city of Weston has been economically neglected, and over the years, it has fallen into decay despite having an energetic community of civic minded residents. Except for a few promising spots, Weston has become a cultural desert. A recent community survey conducted by the Weston Village Residents Association revealed that the majority of participants want Weston to have a thriving a cultural centre.

OUR MISSION

Weston is now on the verge of an economic boom. Development is coming in a big way. The area is expected to welcome more than 7,000 new residents in the next 5 years and many more after that. The next step is to address the urgent need for cultural infrastructure.

The people of Weston and its community stakeholders have delivered a strong mandate for arts and cultural renewal. The Romano D'Andrea Foundation is committed to working with the city, the residents of Weston, the development community, the arts community and other stakeholders to deliver on this promise.

In addition, The Romano D’Andrea Foundation is committed to seeking out a not-for-profit theatre company to make Weston’s new performing arts centre its new home.
